Featuring a back-illuminated 35mm full-frame CMOS image sensor, the ILME-FR7 employs Sony’s advanced sensor technology in a pan tilt zoom (PTZ) camera for the first time. In addition to wide dynamic range, low noise, and cinematic full frame bokeh, this amazing sensor delivers extraordinarily high sensitivity, when expanded, can achieve 409,600. Paired with the high- performance BIONZ XR image processing engine, the FR7 delivers superb image quality with high sensitivity, smooth gradations, and true-to-life colour. Extraordinary processing power makes light work of the large volumes of data required for 4K 120p movie recording.

Nuanced visual expression

In order to take full advantage of the sensor’s high sensitivity, the FR7 has a Base Sensitivity setting that allows ISO to be expanded up to 409600 when shooting in low light. In Cine EI mode, base sensitivity can be set to either ISO 800 or ISO 12800 to match lighting conditions, making it possible to minimize noise while maintaining a consistent look. What’s more, a wide 15+ stop dynamic range, when shooting in S-Log3, prevents blown highlights and blocked shadows, with enhanced creative flexibility. To support instant-delivery footage, the FR7 also supports Sony’s S-Cinetone look for pleasing skin tones and soft highlight roll off.


New world of expression with remote shooting

With its integrated remotely controllable pan/tilt mechanism the FR7 can be mounted on a tripod, on a ceiling, or in other locations that otherwise provide limited access. The FR7 is also compatible with Sony’s RM-IP500 remote controller (sold separately) for multi-camera production, further expanding creative potential while reducing the need for dedicated staff in production studios and other shooting situations. A single RM-IP500 unit can remotely control up to 100 ILME-FR7 cameras (10 groups of 10 cameras).

Smooth pan-tilt-zoom operation

In addition to remote camera operation, the FR7 incorporates smooth pan/tilt/zoom functionality that can be remotely controlled. Pan and tilt speed can be continuously varied from 0.02 degrees per second to 60 degrees per second, supporting a wide range of camera movements. The pan angle range is from -170°to +170°, and the tilt angle range is from -30°to +195° when used in normal upright orientation, or from -210°to +15° when suspended from a ceiling mount. Zoom speed is also variable.

Fast Hybrid Autofocus and tenacious tracking

Fast Hybrid AF locks onto the subject quickly and tracks tenaciously, even in low light. With 627 selectable phase- detection AF points that cover almost the entire image area, the camera’s powerful processing engine can process the huge volume of subject data acquired over a wide area in real time for precise, high-density focus analysis. Fast Hybrid AF and pan/tilt/zoom functionality combine to focus on even fast-moving subjects precisely and smoothly over a wide area, even when a shallow depth of field is used.

New web application for total control

With a new dedicated web application built-in, pan, tilt, zoom, focus, record, playback, and all camera settings, can be controlled from a tablet or computer web browser. This provides easy, versatile remote control for situations where the camera is mounted on a ceiling or other hard-to-access location.

The web application uses the same menu format as the ILME-FX6 and other Cinema Line cameras for intuitive operation. In multi-camera setups, each ILME-FR7 cameras can be controlled from a separate web browser tab. Multiple FR7 cameras can therefore be accessed and controlled by simply switching browser tabs as necessary.

The ILME-FR7 can be quickly connected to a tablet or computer by scanning the QR code printed on the camera, or by entering the corresponding URL. Additionally the FR7 can be used with Sony’s high- performance RM-IP500 remote controller for PTZ cameras, providing precise joystick-controlled pan, tilt, and zoom operation.

Electronic Variable ND Filter

Sony’s built-in electronically controlled ND filter allows seamless ND adjustments from 1/4 to 1/128 so that exposure can be varied while keeping the aperture constant for consistent depth of field.
