The Large Format Sensor
FUJIFILM GFX ETERNA 55 – Designed for Filmmakers, Built Around a Large Format Sensor
At the heart of GFX ETERNA 55 lies a powerful large format sensor: 44x33mm (55mm diagonal), far exceeding the traditional 35mm full-frame. Its expansive surface records light in stunning detail, delivering a cinematic aesthetic with unique depth-of-field characteristics that standard formats simply can’t replicate.
Smooth tonal gradation. Subtle textures hiding in the shadows. Atmosphere lingering in the highlights.
Every flicker of light, every nuance of tone – faithfully rendered, even in low light, with remarkably low noise.
Skin tones are recorded with delicate precision, preserving their natural feel.
GFX ETERNA 55 is more than a tool. It’s a camera that lets filmmakers return to the essence of visual storytelling: the desire to speak through light.

Electronic Variable ND Filter
GFX ETERNA 55 features a built-in electronic variable ND filter designed specifically for its large format sensor. With a range from ND0.6 to 2.1, it provides up to seven stops of light reduction with smooth, precise control in increments as fine as ND0.015. Thanks to Fujifilm’s proprietary precision engineering, this filter allows seamless and highly accurate density adjustments with minimal colour shift –even during movie recording.
By instantly adapting to changing lighting conditions on set, it enables filmmakers to dial in their intended exposure swiftly, greatly enhancing efficiency.
Dual Base ISO
GFX ETERNA 55’s large format sensor, measuring 44x33mm, is approximately 1.7 times larger than a typical full-frame sensor. Its dual base ISOs of 800 and 3200 maximise performance, delivering smooth tonal gradations and exceptional low-noise capabilities. Even in challenging lighting conditions like shadows, backlighting, and nighttime scenarios, it minimises the digital noise often associated with such conditions, faithfully recording the atmosphere of the scene. GFX ETERNA 55’s sensor is set to become a new well of inspiration for filmmakers.
Dynamic Range
GFX ETERNA 55’s wide range Log gamma, F-Log2 C, enables the large format sensor to achieve over 14 stops* of dynamic range. From deep shadows to bright highlights, it records the subtle nuances of light without compromise, allowing precise adjustments aligned with the creator’s vision in post-production. Combined with its wide colour gamut recording, this opens up virtually unlimited possibilities for expression in colour and contrast.

Optical Low-Pass Filter
GFX ETERNA 55’s large format sensor is equipped with a specially designed optical low-pass filter (OLPF) that’s optimised for filmmaking. It employs a four-point separation method effectively reducing moiré and false colours. With a focus on the soft and refined image quality demanded by cinematic expression, GFX ETERNA 55 achieves highly detailed footage that maintains a pleasing smoothness without excessive sharpness.
Autofocus
With a GF Lens attached, GFX ETERNA 55 delivers highly accurate autofocus. The autofocus algorithm leverages the same advanced technology found in FUJIFILM GFX100 II, using deep-learning-based subject detection to quickly and precisely analyse scenes. This enables the camera to maintain sharp focus, even with the large format sensor’s characteristic shallow depth-of-field. Pair it with the new FUJINON GF32-90mmT3.5 PZ OIS WR, and you get enhanced flexibility and responsiveness on set – an indispensable companion for any filmmaker.
Various Formats
GFX ETERNA 55 supports 4:3 Open Gate recording, fully utilising the expansive imaging area of its large format sensor.
In addition to FUJINON GF and Premista lenses, it also supports 8K/4K DCI recording with standard 35mm compatible PL lenses. Moreover, it is compatible with anamorphic lenses and Super 35 format lenses, allowing filmmakers to freely select the desired field of view according to their creative vision.
Combining the rich visual expression unique to a large sensor with broad compatibility across lens types and formats, this camera becomes a powerful creative tool – expanding the freedom of filmmaking to new heights.
Anamorphic Ready
GFX ETERNA 55’s large format 4:3 sensor is ideal for the unique cinematic qualities of anamorphic lenses.
The elongated aspect ratio, elliptical bokeh, and horizontal lens flare characteristic of such optics have been widely embraced in filmmaking to enrich storytelling. GFX ETERNA 55 offers real-time de-squeeze monitoring on set, providing a clear and accurate preview during shooting.
By combining the sensor’s vast image circle with the distinct properties of anamorphic lenses, GFX ETERNA 55 delivers unprecedented depth and scale to your creative output.
Codec
Apple ProRes HQ, renowned for its reliability in post-production workflows, is the main recording codec on GFX ETERNA 55.
It offers a perfect balance of high-quality image fidelity and robust editing performance, enabling a seamless workflow from on set to final finishing. Covering up to 8K at 30fps, 4K at 60fps, and HD at 120fps, GFX ETERNA 55 records the rich tonal range and colour of its large format sensor in formats optimised for any scenario.
Whether it’s cinematic feature films, commercials demanding flexible frame rates, or high-speed artistic projects,
GFX ETERNA 55’s versatility makes it an ideal tool across genres.

The camera’s essence lies in honouring the creative aesthetic that lenses – including anamorphic ones – bring to your work.
5.0-inch Large LCD Monitor
Equipped with a 5.0-inch display, this camera boasts a high-resolution panel with 6.22 million dots, making it remarkably easy to check focus and colour accuracy – crucial for precise decisions on set.
With a 2000-nit brightness, the screen remains clear and visible even under bright outdoor lighting or harsh backlight. The display latency is reduced to an absolute minimum for smooth real-time monitoring and focus control, without lag or frustration. Moreover, the proprietary colour reproduction technology ensures faithful and consistent colour rendering, for easy calibration that helps maintain colour integrity throughout recording and post-production.
Dedicated Handle
A dedicated handle is included, designed for both ease of use and advanced functionality. On the side of the handle is a dial for focus, zoom, or iris control. When paired with electronically controlled lenses, these dials enable smooth, precise adjustments for real-time fine-tuning. Switching the dial to the ND setting allows you to smoothly adjust the density of the electronic variable ND filter on the fly. The handle base features a sliding rail syste, allowing for quick and effortless repositioning of the balance point to accommodate changes in overall weight when attaching batteries or lenses.
