When VENŪ, owned by Peter Hader, decided to build a purpose-designed production studio in their new premises, they wanted more than just quality lighting—they wanted a studio that was carefully designed from the ground up to deliver professional results while remaining practical and easy to operate.
Being recommended for their expertise in studio infrastructure, Peter contacted Lemac to assist with the design and implementation of the new space.
From an Empty Room to a Professional Studio
Starting with a completely blank room, Wayne Newton from Lemac worked closely with Peter throughout the entire design process. Rather than simply supplying equipment, Lemac collaborated with the builders and electricians during construction to ensure every aspect of the room was prepared correctly before installation began.
This early planning is one of the key reasons Lemac projects run so smoothly. By coordinating with the various trades, cable paths, fixing points, power locations and structural supports were all positioned correctly before the lighting grid was installed, eliminating costly changes later in the project.
Attention to detail at this stage ensures the finished studio is both highly functional and visually impressive.
Designing Around the Client's Needs
Every studio has different requirements, so understanding how Peter intended to use the space was essential.
Discussions focused on:
- The size of the studio and shooting area
- Background and cyclorama lighting requirements
- Talent lighting requirements
- Future flexibility
- Ease of operation for staff
- Professional cable management and aesthetics
This consultation allowed Lemac to specify the right combination of lighting fixtures and control system rather than simply supplying an "off-the-shelf" package.
The Solution
Lemac supplied, installed and commissioned a complete studio lighting system consisting of:
- 3m x 5.2m professional lighting grid
- 5 × SWIT Vango 100 RGBW Cyclorama Lights for even background illumination
- 4 × SWIT Vango 70 RGBW Talent Lights providing soft, adjustable key and fill lighting
- 2 × SWIT Vango 70 RGBW Floor Lights for additional creative lighting options
- ChamSys QuickQ 10 DMX Lighting Console
The ChamSys QuickQ 10 was selected as the ideal control solution because it includes built-in fixture profiles for the SWIT Vango lighting range, making programming faster while providing intuitive day-to-day operation.
Installation Matters
A professional installation is about much more than simply hanging lights.
The Lemac installation team carefully mounted the lighting grid before installing every fixture, DMX cable and power connection.
Rather than leaving excess cable hanging throughout the grid—as is often seen in many studio installations—Lemac replaced long temporary cables with correctly sized leads, routing everything neatly across the top of the lighting grid. The result is a clean, organised installation that is both easier to maintain and far more professional in appearance.
The lighting console was also positioned neatly in the rear corner of the studio, providing convenient control of every lighting fixture without impacting the usable production space.
The Result
The completed studio delivered exactly what Peter had envisioned—a modern, flexible and professional production environment that is simple to operate while providing exceptional lighting performance.
Peter was extremely impressed with both the finished result and the attention to detail throughout the installation.
"The studio looks excellent. It's incredibly neat and tidy, and the attention to detail is outstanding. I can certainly see why Lemac is in such high demand."
