Vintage look meets modern design and reliability. In recent years the demand for vintage glass has surged as cinematographers look to take the edge off their digital images. This growing demand for vintage lenses prompted Cooke Optics to introduce a modern redesign of a vintage classic. The new Panchro/i Classic lens series, that is true to the original look of the now legendary Speed Panchro, recreates the same look and feel of the originals with the advantage of modern glass and mechanics. The original Cooke Speed Panchro, designed by Horace W. Lee in the 1920s, was a cine prime lens that chromatically enhanced an image when filming under restricted illumination. Cooke Speed Panchros combined a relative aperture as wide as f2.0 with an angular field of view and definition previously impossible with much smaller apertures. They quickly gained a worldwide reputation for quality cinema production and were widely used throughout the 20th century. The new Panchro/i Classic’s are colour matched to all contemporary Cooke lenses, and feature uniform housings with consistent iris and focus scale positioning. They take the Cooke look to a new level with a gradual fall off on the edge of frame which is a pleasant match for portrait, fashion and commercial cinematography.
