Sony PMW-F55 and F5 now in Rentals

Sony’s new PMW-F5 and F55 (pictured) cameras are now available to rent from Lemac. Combined with Lemac’s vast rentals fleet including new PL-mount 35mm glass from Canon (30-105mm T2.8 Cinema Zoom) and Zeiss (70-200mm T2.9 Compact Zoom), filmmakers have more options than ever before.

Both cameras are capable of recording 16-bit linear raw to a docked Sony recorder, the AXS-R5, in both 4K and 2K, at a sustained 2.3Gbps.

The internal record formats for each camera also impresses: the F5 offering 2K in Sony’s new codec XAVC (10-bit, 4:2:2, 100Mbps), as well as 1080P in a versatile range of Sony codecs (HDCAM SR Lite, XAVC HD and XDCAM HD).

The PMW-F55 internally records 4K in XAVC (4:2:2, 300Mbps- about an 8:1 compression on it’s external raw recording mentioned above), in addition to 2K and HD in the same formats as the F5 for higher frame rates and compression if desired. The F55 also features the same ultra-wide colour gamut as the F65 and an electronic global shutter.

Both cameras feature a production-ready design and ergonomics that will slot them into independent and documentary (F5) and commercial and long-form (F55) alongside Lemac’s existing flagship camera, the Sony F65 – which offers the ultimate in image acquisition (4K linear raw 16-bit, derived from the camera’s 8K sensor) and production readiness that is second-to-none.
