LEMAC - ON LOCATION

For 35 years, Lemac has been a proud supporter of the Australian film and television industry, supplying state-of-the-art gear and services to a range of world-class productions.

Below is a collection of news from some of the many exciting productions shot using Lemac's gear and services.

Lightning Point - TV Series

As the crew rolled on their last shot of 2010 on Jonathan M Shiff's latest production, "Lightning Point", a Lemac rentals team member was standing by to ship the two 16mm Aaton Xteras off to be serviced over the Xmas break.

The cameras were sent from the Gold Coast studios overnight to Sydney where Lemac's senior service technician Graham Jones gave the gear a thorough clean and inspection. The object of the exercise was to ensure that the cameras were in their best possible condition for when the crew returned to shooting in early January 2011.

Graham Jones explains;

"We try to do this sort of thing as often as possible, especially on the long form drama. Nothing usually comes up as a problem but you're better off taking these opportunities to have a look, clean the gear, maybe tighten up a few screws and just make sure everything is 100%. The only things we generally have to work on are related to the tripods, stuff like the lock offs because they tend to cop a harder time" ... "The crew on Lightning Point have done a great job of looking after the gear, all I really had to do was run a few tests, give it a clean and send it back"

Mad Bastards - Feature Film

Mad Bastards is a forthcoming new feature film from Mushroom Pictures. Shot using Lemac’s Aaton 35III Super-35 camera kit, the film promises to deliver outstanding images to complement a powerful and moving story about indigenous Australians, their family and culture.

It is the story of TJ, a former ‘street warrior,’ who begins to question his life of violence through interaction with his son and the Aboriginal community of Five Rivers, a frontier town in the remote Kimberley region of northern Western Australia.

35mm film is an excellent choice for shooting in remote and unforgiving locations such as the Kimberley, not only for it’s rugged design and simplicity, but also for the quality of the pictures achievable, given the spectacular and iconic nature of the setting.

We here at Lemac are extremely excited about this project and it's International Premiere at Sundance 2011.

Red Dog - Feature Film

Lemac recently provided the aptly-chosen Red One Digital Cinema camera package for the upcoming feature, Red Dog. Based on a true story, Red Dog is a major new Australian film about a charismatic kelpie who united a mining community in the mid 1970s and 80s

Lemac gear was truly put to the test while filming for a month in the sandy and remote landscape of the Pilbara region in Western Australia, which followed on from a five-week shoot in South Australia.

Red Dog has been adapted from the novel by award-winning author Louis De Bernieres, is directed by Kriv Stenders (Lucky Country) and produced by Julie Ryan (Ten Canoes) and Nelson Woss (Ned Kelly).

With substantial support from both government and private sectors and the proven track record of it’s filmmakers, Red Dog promises to be a must-see family movie upon it’s release in 2011.
